Vale David Carr 15 June 1932 – 17 July 2023

OMA is saddened to report that David Carr, Masters Athletics Western Australia Patron, Life Member and World Champion Athlete passed away on the 17 July 2023, aged 91.

David had been unwell following his trip to Poland earlier this year to receive the 2022 WMA Best Male Masters Athlete of the Year Award.

In 2022 David won five Gold medals at the WMA Championships in Tampere, Finland in events ranging from the 400m to 5000m including the steeplechase. He broke six world records in 2022 in the M90 division, of note running the 5000m in a time of 29:28:57s and 2km Steeple chase with a time of 12:26:57 (both WR’s)

As a result of these outstanding achievements David was selected as the 2022 WMA Best Male Athlete. This was a fitting tribute marking the many state national and world age group records David achieved since becoming a founding and continual member of Veterans/Masters Athletics WA in 1974.

A true gentleman and legend of our sport. Our condolences go to his wife, Patricia, and David’s family. May he Rest in Peace.
